Favorites...

What's that? That's my computer saavy three year old with his new favorite...the mouse. The kid is a computer whiz. Should we expect anything less from my child?! Daddy's really tech saavy too, so Trey and Emery don't really have much of a choice.

Before we go any further, let's discuss the 'boo boo' on Trey's hand. Is it wierd, that I have a scar in that very spot, on the same hand?! I thought so...

Since we disconnected the satellite, and don't have TV any longer...our 42" TV has become a massive computer monitor...It's a good thing that we have the laptop too, or we would have some serious issues with sharing. Trey LOVES his computer time. If that makes me a bad mom, then so be it....but it might be the only 30 minutes or so that Trey will sit still! Should I be worried that he knows how to use the scroll bar, and can navigate the ENTIRE Thomas web site...including showing us his Christmas presents he wants?

My point exactly!

The monitor...s-a-weet.

While we're on the subject of favorites...take a look at this thing. This is better known as Trey's favorite night, night. One of Grandma's clients had this made, and for whatever reason...this.is.the.one. How sad does that look? Could someone (it's not gonna be me!) please tell him that big boys don't have night night's. Check out those patches. That's the extent of my sewing skills...don't laugh.

This is Trey...oh, and by the way, Emery sucks the same thumb, and works her night night the same way. Is it possible to have twins, 2 and 1/2 years apart?!

UPS & Downs...

UPS, as in the ever-so-famous delivery service. This is what was on my door step today. Nice. My question is...How in the world could the delivery guy think that it was okay to leave that box, in that condition?!?

Here's what was in the box. As I'm going to start printing for my photography business, I decided it would be good to print some pictures on mat board, with different finishes to show clients their different options. So, I got 2 different 8 x 10's. 2 of my latest favorites.

Remember, these prints are on MAT board. THICK. They were both creased. Ugh. However, the company I use to print was VERY apologetic and they are sending me new prints, free of charge. Very nice. Note to self. No more UPS. USPS or FedEx...that's it! I don't think I ever mentioned that I once went up to UPS to see what shipping would be, to send a CD to Tomball...okay, Tomball....like 10 miles...maybe. They wanted $17!!! I delivered the CD myself. Let me reiterate...UPS or FedEx.

Counting the Days...

Ahem, {let me clear my throat}..."We now interrupt this marriage/family for football season!" Can you hear the bands playing? We're ready for it though, I was just telling Joe that this really is my favorite time of year. Really. It is. You may not believe me, and I may be complaining in about a month, but just re-direct me back to this post. I am ready. My favorite time of year by far...well, that is once the temperature drops below 90! Joe has started back to work, but we are super stoked that he has this weekend off before they kick it into high gear.

Anyway, I've been slacking on my posts. Maybe it's because I'm not in school, and not in front of a computer for 5+ hours a day. I am the queen of sneaking in blog posts between classes, or maybe during class...I'll never tell.

We haven't been up to much, really. I promise, or I would share. We did get to take the kids, and Jana, to the circus last week...thanks Morgan's! The seats were fabulous, and Trey LOVED it. I jacked this picture off of google, because I might have been the only person in Reliant, that chose not to bring my camera. It was a great show, see...

Another major event this week was that I cooked dinner! I know, shocking. I really do love to cook, we just find a better reason to eat a sandwich on the run or something. We have been kickin' tail on the whole 'limiting' the eating out thing. Since you're all wondering what I made, you know you are. I'll share a recipe that we like...

Tortilla Lasagna:

This is one of my favorites, because the possibilities are endless and can totally be jazzed up however you like.

You'll Need:
1 - 1 1/2 lbs. ground meat
1 can refried beans
1 can corn, drained
1 small can tomato sauce
1 packet taco seasoning
1 package shredded cheese {I used Mexican blend}
Tortillas

Start with about a pound to a pound and a half of ground meat, and brown it. Add whatever seasonings, but I just added a taco seasoning packet and added the water that it says on the packet. I sauteed half of an onion in with the meat too. Once the meat is browned, I also add a small can of tomato sauce and a drained can of corn. Got it? That's all for the skillet. The rest is done in the casserole dish.

In a 9 x 13, I put a couple spots of refried beans on the bottom and stick the tortilla on the bottom...the beans hold the tortilla in place. {genius, I know...ha!} After the bottom layer of tortilla I smear about half the can of refried beans (a thin layer) across the bottom. On top of the beans, I spoon in half of the meat mixture. Add desired amount of cheese to the top...and re-layer. Tortilla, beans, meat mixture, and cheese. {I mix it up a bit, by putting another layer of tortilla on top of the meat and putting the cheese on top of the tortilla} Throw it in the oven on 350 degrees for about 10-15 minutes to warm everything up. Serve with tortilla chips, sour cream and whatever else you like. I like to serve a tex-mex kind of salad. I jazzed up our ranch dressing that night and spooned in some salsa to the ranch...YUM!

P.S. I jacked this picture from google images too...I promise I'll get my camera out tomorrow. I hope!

*Friends*

Let me just start off by saying, "I double dog dare you to take pictures of 4 strong-willed kids under the age of 3 and a half...all at the same time". Go ahead, try it. My friend Tabrae and I are obviously missing a few screws, and that's what we decided to do this morning. Maddy is one of Trey's best friends and we have to get them on camera...because they are so stinkin' cute. See the evidence below...

You can see who wears the pants in the relationship! If you need a hint, it's definitely not Trey...even though he would tell you differently!

We also had to get the headshots in...those are much, much easier!

This girl takes my breath away!

Maddy is going to be a heart breaker!

Austin is ALL boy! He was in the water puddle in no time!

And Trey, well...he's Trey!

*Emery's Party*

Let's start with the cupcakes...I was pretty proud of them. You should have seen me and my mom trying to get them iced last night. It only took one extra trip to Walmart for new icing. That's all...A quick sidenote: My mom brought over all of her cake decorating supplies that she has had since she made me and my brother's cakes when we were little!

I managed to create this. My first time to decorate a cake using the official icing 'stuff'...my verdict? It could have been a lot worse! The 1 was a little off center, but I'm pretty sure Em didn't mind!

I mean after all...it ended up looking like this!

Here's the princess being very patient...

She started off being nice and picky...

Then, she dug right in...

We moved on to presents after that...and Trey was a big helper!

She got her first pair of Wellies (aka...rain boots) from Grammie and Iggie! So cute!

All in all, it was a great little gathering of friends and family. I am still adjusting to the fact that Emery is no longer a baby. She is done with the bottle and baby food, can I get a woot woot! In case you need a laugh, I'll leave you with this picture...

Enough said.

* Changes *

Whew, normalcy is returning to the Owens' household. We have been blowin' and goin' all summer, and it has finally started to slow down! Our road trips and vacations were packed full of memories. Great times! Now it's time to tackle that small mountain that has formed in my laundry room! I swear those clothes are up to something in there, they had to have multiplied overnight!

Can you beileve that this little girl is going to be 1 on Saturday?!?! Where did the time go?

Joe and I did something ridiculous drastic last week. I dare you to do it...double dog dare you. We had the cable/satellite disconnected. AKA. NO TV AT ALL...it took me a few hours to catch my breath once reality set in. We have managed to make it a week! Mimi and Uncle Cody have a running bet that we won't make it past a month and a half! Don't worry though, I have already made arrangements to go watch the Bachelorette at Mimi's! Mimi says she is going to starting charging a cover for me to come over and watch. Ha!

As if the TV wasn't enough of a change, we are also becoming a one car family. Getting rid of a car payment is going to give us a little raise...you know, since some un-named school district threw all of its teachers under the bus to make the tax payers happy. Thanks Mr. Un-Named Superintendent. Moving on...It really was in the stars for us to sell Joe's truck. My brother's car bit the bullet and it made for a really easy transition. At least the truck is staying in the family! Trey is happy about that.

Don't worry, we're not living by candlelight and using an outhouse...yet. KIDDING.

This is Joe's last week at home before he is off to coaching school his 4-day vacation on Lake Travis. If you know anything about football coaches, then you know that once coaching school hits...you count down the days until November/December! Well, I better get back to the laundry...that is if I can even get in the door to the laundry room!

Stay tuned for pictures of Emery's birthday party!

* A Favorite *

"Emery, I told you to give me a kiss!"

If you've spent any amount of time with Trey and Emery, this is soooo them! He thinks he's the boss....that's only because she can't set him straight just yet. Look out world when she can, because she will!

That picture up there is one of my recent favorites. It's hard to pick just one. MckLinky is having a blog hop on Tuesdays with different themes. I thought I'd give it a shot! Click on MckLinky and start hoppin'!

We're Baaaack!

Just one of the roads we traveled this week! We have been in Bandera with the Owens'/Gracy/Downs crew. What a fun time we had! I had to snap a picture of this...

To prove that we did, indeed, see some rain! The smell of rain was soooo sweet!

We also saw a TON of these...

One night on our way back to our condo, we counted 40!

We went to Uvalde and Concan one day...awesome.

The poor Frio is sooo low in spots. We were at Neal's, can we say YUM to the fried chicken??

We headed to the water after lunch, and watched some not-so-smart kid jump out of a tree!

Miss Em was being bashful and hung out on the banks with Papa...

While we were driving one evening, I had to get a shot of this sky. How can you not believe in God with skies like this???

One afternoon, Billie and I went out for a little shopping and wanted to scope out some places to take our family picture...Joe had found a place earlier that day that was behind the city park. Well, we found his place but instead of turning around, we wandered up the private road that kept going. Up on top of this hill, we stumbled upon the Silver Spur Dance Hall. OMG, the coolest photo opportunity EVER. I mentioned that it was private property and we probably ought to hi-tail head back to the house. After getting home, we worked up the courage to call the number we found. Success! The lady was very nice and said no problem at all!

Check THIS out!

Here's our family picture...we got to use the timer for the first time.

Thank you Papa & Grandma for an awesome week!

Now, back to the mounds of laundry!!! Hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!
