Friends for Dinner

What do you do when you have dear friends coming over for dinner on a school night, and you don't get home until almost 4 o'clock? {besides rush to make the bed, layout the laundry nicely, and make sure you close the laundry room door!} Hmmm. I know...

You make a quick run to your friend Mr. Hartz's
house for some of this crispy goodness...
{p.s. Don't even try to tell this family that KFC or Popeye's is better, it's not}

You throw some Bush's baked beans on the stove...

Make some Oriental Cole Slaw {recipe below}...

Pair all that with some of these ridiculously good rolls...
I swear on my favorite 50mm 1.4 that I only had 1...
I can't speak for anyone else.

and top it all off with the easiest dessert EVER...

After dinner, you forget to take pictures of your actual friends...the same friends who laughed at me because I was taking pictures of the food before I let them dig in. I promise we had friends over. Okay, I know you've read this far for the recipes, I'll carry thru with that promise...

Oriental Cole Slaw
  • 1 bag of pre packaged cole slaw
  • 1 small bag slivered almonds {feel free to toast, I didn't}
  • 1/4 cup green onion
  • 1 pkg beef ramen noodles, crunched up {SAVE the flavor packet}
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds {insides, not the shells, duh}
Combine all ingredients and toss, prepare dressing...

Dressing:
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • a little less than 1/3 vinegar, I always go light on the vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • beef ramen flavor packet
Mix the dressing ingredients well, pour over salad, and toss. Refrigerate until serving. I always think its really good on the second day.

Want the dessert recipe? Ready?
  1. Take a pretty bowl
  2. Tear up some angel food cake, put at bottom of bowl
  3. Slice up some strawberries, put 'em on top of the angel food cake
  4. Slop some cool whip on top of that
  5. Lather, rinse, repeat...to make it two layers
  6. If you really need me to tell you how to make the top layer, then we probably shouldn't be friends.
P.S. Tomorrow Trey is graduating from his preschool...I might be apprehensive, except he gets to go back next year to the 4 yr old room. Stay tuned for pictures...he gets to wear a cap/gown.

OK, so i never heard of Hartz chicken before moving to Cypress and have seen the tiny place down the street from my house, but thought it was a hole in the wall place that had to be terrible! So glad to hear this from you, maybe next time I have friends over I'll follow your directions!

Well, since you can't prove you actually had friends over I guess we will all have to take your word for it. lol ;)
I LOVE hartz rollz...I like to dip them in gravy. *wince* did I just say that outloud? Oh dear...oh dear.

With Love and Blessings,
